Precautions To Be Taken before taking Adderall?

You should not use Adderall if you are allergic to any stimulant medication. Do not use Adderall if you have any of the following conditions:

• severe anxiety or agitation (stimulant medicine can make these symptoms worse)

• overactive thyroid

• glaucoma

• vascular disease or hardening of the arteries

• high blood pressure

• heart disease or coronary artery disease

• a history of drug or alcohol addiction

If you have taken MAO inhibitors in the last 14 days, you should not take Adderall. MAO inhibitors like isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine, and others can cause dangerous drug interactions.

If you are not sure that Adderall is right for you, tell your doctor if you ever had any of the following conditions:

• liver or kidney disease

• motor tics (muscle twitches) or Tourette’s syndrome

• seizures or epilepsy

• an abnormal brain wave test (EEG)

• depression, anxiety, mental illness, bipolar disorder, psychosis, problems with aggression, or suicidal thoughts or actions

• blood circulation problems in the feet or hands

Serotonin syndrome is a severe condition caused by drug interactions with amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. You should disclose to your doctor the other medications you are taking. 

Taking Adderall during pregnancy can result in premature birth, low birth weight, and withdrawal symptoms in the newborn.

Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine, which are present in Adderall, can pass into breast milk and harm a nursing baby. Avoid breastfeeding while taking this medicine.
